Down East Class with Lisa Chaloner and Sunday Hook In
Description of Class: Have you always wanted to design your own rug pattern but haven’t known where to start? Are you concerned that your drawing skills are not up to par? Do you wonder if you can create a design that is pleasing to viewers? Does the thought of color and value make you queasy? Many artists feel the same way! In class, we will address all of these issues, initially through discussion of techniques that artists have used throughout history to improve their designs. Then, students will spend time using one of the methods that we have discussed to design and begin hooking their own rug. Some of the areas students will focus on are motif placement, perspective, embellishing a simple design with unique details, and finally, the use of color and value to enhance the rug. Class Materials: Students will need the following materials for class ● Linen with an area large enough to support a 12” x 12” design (students may bring their own linen or purchase it from me for a fee of $5.00) ● Enough wool to begin a 12” x 12” rug. (students may bring their own and I will also have wool available.) An estimated cost for wool would be about $50.00. ● Hooking equipment: hooks, cutters, scissors, lights, sharpies, etc. Plus the 2 Day Hook In on Saturday & Sunday.
Class includes a morning pastry & beverages and a catered lunch.

Hook In: Sunday November 1, 2026 Time: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Hook In includes a breakfast of pastries & fresh fruit and catered lunch with beverages.
